Louisville Ghost Tours And Haunted History
Louisville Historic Tours is Old Louisville’s premier company for Louisville Ghost Tours. We’ve guided over 50,000 visitors through the streets of Old Louisville and are the oldest and most well-known tour company that operates in the 40+ blocks and neighborhoods that comprise of Old Louisville.
Who knew that Old Louisville, one of the largest Victorian neighborhoods in the country, would also be its most haunted? Wherever you wander, it seems that a haunted house is not far away. Or a spooky church, a lonely street corner, or an eerie park. Over the last two decades, so many stories of supernatural activity have surfaced here that Old Louisville has gained the reputation as being one of America’s most beloved haunted hotspots. This is hardly surprising, given the hundreds of mansions where today’s residents claim that ghostly footsteps, spectral images, and disembodied voices remind them that they are not alone.
David Dominé found out for himself when he moved there in the 1990s. After falling in love with the neighborhood, he bought and restored a three-story Chateâuesque home on Third Street, the old Millionaires Row of the city. His six-bedroom house was just one of hundreds of striking dwellings in an area famous for its fanciful architecture and 19th-century charm, however. Apart from beautiful mansions, the neighborhood also came with and assortment of colorful characters and a wealth of legends and lore. He had heard his house had its own ghost, but he didn’t take it seriously. That is, until strange noises and puzzling smells began keeping him awake at night. The would-be paranormal experiences at “La Casa Fabulosa” led to him writing books about the neighborhood. And, eventually, he stared leading guided tours to show off the area’s impressive architecture and haunted history. He wanted to share these Louisville ghost tours with anyone interested in the paranormal.
Every night at 7:30PM, seven days a week from March 15 through November 15, there’s a tour that introduces visitors to the ghostly past and most famous spooks in “America’s Most Haunted Neighborhood.” Every day at 11AM and 1PM, there are guided tours that focus on the architectural jewels in “America’s Most Exuberant Neighborhood.” Enjoyed against the backdrop of gas lamps and hidden walking courts, these walks have received awards and accolades from national and international publications such as The New York Times and Southern Living.
Our Louisville ghost tours are fun for the entire family and are also a feast for the eyes. Come see the beautiful historic architecture of Old Louisville and hear of the spooks, specters, and ghosts that call them home.
Allow approximately 90 minutes for the ghost tour, which is based on David Dominé’s book True Ghost Stories and Eerie Legends from America’s Most Haunted Neighborhood.
A GPS of “1300 South Fourth Street” will help you arrive, but do not go inside the actual building. All walking tours start and end in front of the brown “Welcome to Old Louisville” sign at the corner of South Fourth Street and West Ormsby Avenue, which is a block north of Central Park. Because of a recent fire, our ghost tours no longer meet at Smokey’s Bean coffee shop. Call or text: (502) 718-2764 for more information.
Ample street parking is usually available. If you are looking for a lunch or dinner spot before or after your tour, consider Buck’s Restaurant at 425 West Ormsby or Amici Cafe at 316 West Ormsby. They’re just half a block away, as are the Dupont Mansion Bed & Breakfast and the Louisville Bourbon Inn.
Last-minute reservations are not a problem.
Light rain? Bring an umbrella and we’ll still do the tour!
Well-behaved dogs are welcome.
