From October 18th to 20th, join us for an unforgettable evening as costumed interpreters and actors guide you through the historic district. Tours depart every 15 minutes starting at 6:00 PM from Haskins Hall in the Conrad-Caldwell House Museum at 1402 St. James Court, with the last tour leaving at 8:45 PM. Each tour, lasting about two hours, ends back at the museum, offering a full circle of spooky stories and haunted history.
What Makes the Victorian Ghost Walk Unique?
David Dominé’s Victorian Ghost Walk® is a theatrical experience based entirely on Dominé’s extensive research and writings. Unlike other ghost tours, this event immerses you in a progressive porch play, bringing together local acting talent to showcase the rich, haunted history of Old Louisville.
Meet fascinating characters like Simon Kracht, the notorious resurrectionist who stole freshly buried corpses for the city medical college, and millionaire Alfred Victor DuPont, whose death at the hands of a scorned mistress is the stuff of legend. Encounter Lucinda, the grief-stricken lunatic who declared herself “Queen of America” in 1885, and many other spirits who once walked these very streets.
Important Notes for Attendees:
- Accessibility: This event is not wheelchair accessible. The tour covers relatively flat surfaces, but you will need to navigate steps when entering several residences. Central Park, where some actors perform, may be muddy if it rains, so wear appropriate footwear.
- Ticket Information: Make sure to double-check your tickets for the correct date and time slot. There’s no need to print out tickets; your name will be on the roster at will-call in Haskins Hall. Check-in 10 minutes before your tour starts.
- Non-Refundable Tickets: This is a rain-or-shine event, so come prepared for any weather conditions. If you miss your tour, refunds are not available.
- Parking: There is generally plenty of free street parking, but St. James Court and Magnolia Avenue fill up quickly. Consider parking on Sixth Street, Park Avenue, or Fourth Street sides of Central Park and walking to the starting point.
Dining and Accommodation:
Make your evening even more special by dining at nearby Buck’s Restaurant or Old Louisville Tavern. For accommodations, consider booking a room at the Dupont Mansion bed and breakfast, the Louisville Bourbon Inn, or the Central Park Bed & Breakfast.
Supporting the Community:
Directed by Keith McGill, this year’s Victorian Ghost Walk benefits the South Fourth Street Association. By attending, you’re not only indulging in a spooky evening but also supporting local neighborhood organizations.
A Magical Autumn Evening:
Picture a brisk fall evening with an overcast sky, dead leaves crunching underfoot, and just enough chill in the air to make you pull your coat tighter. The imposing Victorian architecture, the smell of apples and wood smoke, and the sight of boxwood hedges still holding onto their summer green set the perfect scene for ghostly encounters. As you stroll through the streets of Old Louisville, the faint click and hiss of gas lamps lighting up add to the atmosphere, signaling the start of a night filled with tales of the supernatural.
Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to experience the haunted history of Old Louisville. Join us for the Victorian Ghost Walk 2024 and step back in time to meet the ghosts who once called this neighborhood home.
